RESOLUTION PdO. 8520
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA
VISTA URGING ALL OF THE CITIZENS OF THIS COA~'ItJNITY
AND MORE PARTICULARLY THE CITY STAFF OF THE CITY OF
CHULA VISTA TO UNDERTAKE EVERY MEANS OF SAVING WATER
AND TO CAREFULLY T'IONITOR WATER USE TO PREVENT WASTE
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby
resolve as follows:
WHEREAS, the State of California in the year of 1976 has
suffered the most severe drought in more than thirty years, which
is requiring all of our water agencies to draw heavily upon long
term storage to meet current water needs and commitments, and
WHEREAS, in the absence of major storms within the next
few months, the year of 1977 will see an extremely serious drought
which will cause water shortages in many communities and farming
areas of the City resulting in increased costs of all produce and
food supplies and even affect manufacturing costs, and
WHEREAS, Governor Brown has asked for the cooperation and
active participation of all public officials and people of the State
of California in conserving our water supplies during this drought,
and
WHEREAS, while Southern California, through programs
developed over many years by its water agencies, has an assured
water supply and every necessary water use will be met, an active
water conservation program is essential.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Chula Vista on behalf of themselves and in the interests
of all of the citizens in this area hereby urges each individual
both at home and on the job to undertake with complete dedication
programs to conserve water and to present for the consideration of
the total community any unique and novel means for conserving water.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Chula Vista whicYi
took the lead in encouraging a program of better and greater insula-
tion of homes and the reduction of heating temperatures in homes in
an effort to conserve energy, does hereby dedicate itself to the
vanguard of the effort to preserve and protect water, our most
valuable resource from its wasteful consumption.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all citizens are urged to
carefully monitor water uses so as to prevent such waste sharing
the burden brought about by this drought with the friends and neigh-
bors in those hard hit communities in Central and Northern California
where no alternative is available except the sharp curtailment of
the use of water resources.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of
Chula Vista be, and she is hereby directed to forward a certified
copy of this resolution to the County of San Diego and to all of
the cities within the County of San Diego.
