Agenda Statement 1977/02/22 Item 10
CITY OF CHULA VISTA ITEM N0. 10 COUNCIL AGENDA STATEMENT FOR MEETING OF: 222/77 ITEM TITLE: Resolution #8516 Endorsing in concept Chamber of Commerce program for landscaping a portion of I-805 SUBMITTED BY~ Acting City Manager ITEM EXPLANATION The Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce Beautification Committee has been working for some time with CALTRANS in an effort to landscape CALTRANS' right-of-way from Bonita Road southerly to and including the "H" Street interchange. Mr. Ken Kolk, Chairman of the Committee, has asked for City support for the concept plan because CALTRANS officials feel such support should be offered before proceeding with actual development. As now conceived, landscaping would consist of minimal planting, to be accomplished by the State with its own work forces, with the community furnishing plant material. The City would not be involved in any financial commitment for later maintenance or watering. The landscaping plan would require minimal care and no watering except for occasional washing of the foliage once the plants are established. Although considered a pilot program and a substitution for the customary extensive landscaping found in other areas, it is hoped that the program could be expanded for all freeway right-of-way along I-805 to the southerly City boundary. While I-5 may be budgeted for landscaping within the next two years or so, there seems to be little or no possibility in the near future of accomplishing any landscaping along I-805. It is, therefore, felt that the plan as proposed would be a decided improvement over its present appearance. r\/1 111"11 T["~ ATTA/11 Irl"\ C/1r11D1 I J HI IHI.I'ICU Agreement Resolution X Ordinance Plat Other Environmental Document: Attached Submitted on STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Adopt resolution BOARD/ COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION YR~~~~ ~~.t~' C°un~i~' o~ Ca~~f ©.~~~~ .~ COUNCIL ACTION ~~ Form A-113 (Rev. 5
