RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CHULA VISTA APPROVING THE PERFORMING AND
VISUAL ARTS TASK FORCE'S SELECTION OF THE FISCAL
YEAR 2011 PERFORMING AND VISUAL ARTS GRANTS
RECIPIENTS AND MONETARY GRANT AWARDS
TOTALING $69,200
WHEREAS, in 1997, the City Council approved a Sublease with Live Nation, Inc.
(formerly Universal Concerts) that established a process whereby a portion of ticket sales
proceeds at the Cricket Wireless (formerly Coors) Amphitheater would be paid to the City and
utilized for a Performing and Visual Arts Fund; and
WHEREAS, the fund is to be used for arts grants to the Chula Vista community for the
purpose of promoting and stimulating the growth of performing and cultural arts within the City;
and
WHEREAS, this yeaz the Chula Vista Public Library received $58,241 from Live Nation
for their 2010 Concert Series, an increase of over $2,413, from the previous yeaz; and
WHEREAS, as called for in the sublease, a Performing and Visual Arts Task Force was
established and annually makes recommendations to the City Council regarding the arts grant
awazds; and
WHEREAS, the Task Force is assisted by the Library Department, which formally
conducts the grant application process; and
WHEREAS, the Task Force has reviewed the Fiscal Year 2011/2012 applications and has
made its recommendations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula
Vista does hereby approve the Performing and Visual Arts Task Force's selection of the Fiscal
Year 2011/2012 Performing and Visual Arts Grants recipients (set forth in Exhibit A) and their
monetary grant totaling $69,200.

EXHIBIT A
The twenty-seven applications were reviewed and ranked by pre-established criteria by the Task
Force on April 18th, 2011. A majority of requests were for the amounts requested and some
were adjusted based on the Council approved Task Force policies and Task Force
recommendation. One application was denied due to not being under the scope of the award.
List of Grant Recommendations:
Individual Applicants
• Ken Jacques, Individual Artist $2,500
To provide Centennial photography at multiple events occumng through 2011.
• Don Johnson, Individual Artist $1,500
To fund the cost of matting and framing photographic works on display at the Chula
Vista Yacht Club.
• Katarzyna Lappin, Individual Artist $2,100
To firnd the creation of art works recording the scenery, landmarks, and historical sites of
Chula Vista, to be exhibited at a variety of Centennial events.
• Dennis Simmons, Individual Artist $2,000
To create a series of oil paintings depicting land or seascape scenes of Chula Vista. The
series is to be displayed at a permanent location such as the public Library or Heritage
museum.
Groups and Organizations
Asian Story Theater $2,500
To fund a performance of The Musical Paul Gauguin at a Sweetwater Union High School
District theater, preferably in Chula Vista.
• Bonita Vista's "Music Machine" $2,500
To fund a Vocal Music Department show choir performance at Southwestern Community
College's Mayan Hall.
• Bonita Vista's "Sound Unlimited" $2,500
To support the continuation of community outreach performances at a variety of locations
in Chula Vista and Bonita. Also, to support participation in competitive festivals.
• California Ballet Association $2,500
To provide two on-site events at libraries within a 5 mile radius of Chula Vista and to
provide on site lessons to Sweetwater Union High Schools with existing dance programs.
Also, to provide tickets to underserved schools to scheduled productions.
• Chula Vista 100 $10,000
To fund performances at the Founder's Day Festival on October 16`h, 201 I to be held at
Memorial Park.
• Chula Vista 100 $2,500
To fund a "Tell Your Story" section on the Chula Vista Centennial Website to include
podcasts, video clips and a photo gallery of Chula Vistan's family history, memories and
experiences during the Centennial Year of Service.
• Chula Vista 100 $1,000
To fund the creation of a monument constructed of recycled materials to demonstrate the
community's commitment to the environment.

• Chula Vista 100 $2,500
To fund a Centennial Concert and create DVD's for sale to the public.
• Christian Community Theater $2,500
To fund three ten week classes, culminating in a production of a stage musical presented
to 4,725 south county students.
• Chula Vista Ballet $2,500
To fund a collaboration with Cerri Youth Ballet to study dance, culminating in a
performance with excerpts from Paquita, La Corsaire, Alice in Wonderland and Warabe
Japanese Dance at Mater Dei High School.
• Chula Vista Community Arts Group $2,200
To fund concerts by musicians from the San Diego Symphony, a film series at the Chula
Vista Library, and free art classes for the community.
• Chula Vista Public Library $2,500
To provide artistic and performing art presentations to supplement the Librazy's Summer
Reading Program.
• Chula Vista Public Library $3,000
To fund artistic and performing art presentations for teens and adults to supplement the
Librazy's Summer Reading Program.
• Chula Vista Yacht Club $2,500
To fund a juried Art Show, an Arts and Crafts Fair, a Community Wall mural, and
Random Acts of Culture (Folklorico dancers, Equestrian Vacero traditional reenactment,
Jazz performances, Sea Shanties, Barbershop performances.)
• Collaborations: Teachers and Artists $4,250
To fund artists and mentors to work with teachers participating in the COTA program to
integrate the arts into core curriculum subjects and to expand the program to a tenth
school within the Chula Vista Elementary School District.
• Lamb's Players Theater $1,500
To help fund Miz It Up, an educational play that combines academic content with
chazacter education. One free touring performance will take place at an elementary or
middle school in aloes-income neighborhood.
• Mater Dei $2,000
To help fund a performance of The Nutcracker at the Mater Dei theater on December 3rd,
2011.
• Onstage Playhouse $1,600
To fund a portion of a tuition free program for high school students covering theater
production (acting, directing, playwriting, scene design etc..)
• San Diego Opera Association $3,000
To fund a portion of the WAM (Words and Music) program that improves student
literacy and arts education through the production of a musical theatre/opera piece.
• Theatre and Arts Foundation of San Diego County (La Jolla Playhouse) $2,550
To fund a portion of a Performance Outreach Program and bring a tour to three Chula
Vista schools for a total of six performances of a 45 minute piece that addresses issues in
students' lives.

• Unlimited Jazz Dance Productions $2,500
To create an artist in residence program at the Sweetwater Union High School District
that develops artistic creation and conversation through dance. The program will attempt
to transmit a better understanding and comprehension of the technical aspects of dance.
• Wolf Canyon Elementary School $2,500
To fund an annual musical for 1st through 6th grades in which students will run the box
office, design programs, assist as ushers and manage sound and lighting.
The above grant award recommendations were made by the Task Force with full consideration
given to the recommendations made at the City Council meeting on April 28th, 2009, that
guidelines previously approved by City Council should be augmented with the following -
• Applicants to use the correct application
• Changes to criteria and how points aze awazded
• Expectation of itemized budgets
• Clarification on the amount of funds that can be requested
• Final reports to be completed and filed on time
• Requiring attendance at annual workshops
• Notice that failing to abide by any and all rules could result in funds being withdrawn and
affect future applications by individuals or organizations
The previous guidelines were approved by City Council on December 14th, 1999, and entitled
Criteria for the Allocation of the Performing Arts Fund.
Criteria for the Allocation of the Performing Arts Fund as approved by City Council on
December 14, 1999.
The Performing/Visual Arts Fund, established by the sublease between the City and Live Nation,
shall be annually re-granted through a formal application process. The following groups and
individuals shall be eligible to apply for funds:
• Chula Vista based tax-exempt, non-profit organizations
• Chula Vista based educational institutions
• Chula Vista based religious organizations
• Performance groups associated with Chula Vista based educational institutions (i.e., the
Music Machine)
• The City of Chula Vista and its various departments and Boards and Commissions
• Individuals who reside in Chula Vista
For-profit organizations, institutions and businesses shall not be eligible to apply for funds.
Non-Chula Vista based non-profit organizations shall not be eligible to apply for funds unless
they partner with Chula Vista based organizations.
Individual Chula Vista residents (especially students) shall be eligible to apply, in an effort to
develop local talent.
Per the agreement, applicants may only apply for funds to underwrite the cost of presentations.
Funds shall not be awarded to establish an endowment or trust fund, for administrative costs, for
capital projects, for rent of performance or office space, and/or for general operating expenses.
