COUNCIL AGENDA STATEMENT
For meeting of I/3/78
ITEM T~TLC Resolution~l~/- Support CPO In Opposing Move of HUD Local
i Offices to Los Angeles
SUBMIT~ED BY Community Development Di recto r
ITEM EXPLANATION (4/5TH'S VOTE REQUIRED YES_ NO X )
The Department of HUD has announced that it intends to move most of their local operation
to Los Angeles. Recently, the City of San Diego and CPO have launched a campaign to oppose
the move and have asked area cities for their support of this effort.
The C~ty of Chula Vista is becoming more involved with HUD Housing and Community Develop-
ment Block Grant programs. From the City's standpoint, additional expenses can be expected
if th proposed move were to be accomplished. As it is now dealing with the Los Angeles
and San Francisco offices requires more travel expense, telephone cost and staff time.
It would seem appropriate that the local San Diego office be upgraded to Field Office.
Statusl rather than what is proposed.
Suppo t of the CPO resolution is merited from not only the additional cost but from the
service and efficiency standpoint. A copy of the CPO request and resolution is provided
for your review.
