RESOLUTION N0. 8778
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CHULA VISTA SUPPORTING THE SWEETWATER
CHANNEL SITE FOR THE LOCATION OF A JAPANESE
ASSEMBLY PLANT
WHEREAS, the State Business and Transportation Agency
has solicited proposals from interested parties for the possible
location of a Japanese automobile assembly plant in California;
an d
WHEREAS, there exists in San Diego County a high rate
of unemployment; and
WHEREAS, the introduction of new industry into the local
economy would offer the potential for alleviating such unemployment;
and
WHEREAS, there is a potentially available site on the
Chula Vista/National City Bayfront known as the "Sweetwater 'Deep
Water' Channel Industrial Site"; and
WHEREAS such a site would address the aforementioned
solicitation from the State Business and Transportation Agency for
a proposed site for a Japanese automobile plant; and
WHEREAS, the City of National City, the City of San
Diego along with the County Board of Supervisors, the Unified
Port District and the Economic Development Corporation of San
Diego have expressed their support for such development.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Chula Vista endorse the Sweetwater Channel site
and request that the Governor of the State and the responsible
State officials look favorably on the proposal.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that due to the nature of the
Chula Vista site, it is extremely important to consider such
matters as design of the facility, traffic control and environ-
mental protection. The endorsement of this site for industrial
uses is, therefore, contingent upon adherence to the policies for
such uses as established in the existing Bayfront Redevelopment
Plan.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it be clearly understood
that the problems of design, traffic control and the scale of
activities related to manufacturing be subject to the approval
of this City Council.

Dear Will:
The enclosed prospectus is a revision to the earlier Sweetwater
industrial site proposal which your staff has recently reviewed
as to accuracy and which your City Council previously endorsed
(see attached Resolution No. 8778). The major change in this
new publication which has been sent to well over 100 foreign
firms and financial institutions is the inclusion of the 321,523
square foot former ITT Manufacturing facility with its direct
wharf access. Rest assured that any interest which is generated
will be immediately turned over to the appropriate land use
authorities.
Thank you for your continued support of this proposal. If you
have any questions, please contact me or Greg Smith of my staff.
Sincerely,
`~~
Tom Hamilton
