HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1977-8568RESOLUTION N0. 8568 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA APPROVING THE ACTION OF THE SOUTH BAY IRRIGATION DISTRICT TO PLACE A BOND ISSUE IN THE SUM OF $22,500,000 ON THE MAY 31, 1977 ELECTION BALLOT FOR THE ACQUISITION OF THE CALIFORNIA-AMERICAN WATER COMPANY The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve as follows: WHEREAS, California-American Water Company can only fur- nish twenty percent (20~) of the water used in this area, and WHEREAS, Hoover Dam and Parker Dam were constructed with public funds and resulted in Colorado River water being available to Southern California Coastal area, and WHEREAS, the State Water Project has made water available to San Diego County from northern California by constructing with public funds the necessary facilities to transport the northern water to the south, and WHEREAS, the r4etropolitan Water District of Southern California, of which San Diego County is a member, has constructed with public funds the necessary pumping station, aqueducts, filtra- tion plants and reservoirs to receive both the Colorado River water and northern California water, and WHEREAS, the San Diego County Water Authority has con- structed with public funds the necessary pipe lines to bring this water to the various regions within the County, including Chula Vista, and WHEREAS, the South Bay Irrigation District was formed in 1952 as a public agency to receive this public water, and WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista assigned its entitlement of the public water to the South Bay Irrigation District, and WHEREAS, the South Bay Irrigation District in 1968 filed suit to complete the public owned water system by acquiring the privately owned distribution system and the court has approved of this acquisition, and WHEREAS, the South Bay Irrigation District has directed that payment for the company shall be from revenues from the sale of water and not from taxes, and WHEREAS, after the revenue bonds are paid off, the Irriga- tion District says a major reduction in water rates can take place. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista is in full accord with the action of the South Bay Irrigation District to place on the ballot at the May 31, 1977 election a proposal to issue $22,500,000 in revenue bonds to provide funds to pay the court approved purchase price plus the necessary working capital.
