Collins ~~ SUBMITTED BY Director of Parks and Recreation ITEM EXPLANATION (4/5TH'S VOTE REQUIRED YES. NO X ) At the Council Conference on August 25, 1977, staff was instructed to advertise for a Tennis Professional to operate the Chula Vista Tennis Center at Southwestern College. With the assistance of the Personnel Department, applicants were solicited and seven candidates were interviewed for this position. Staff recommends Mr. Edward S. Collins for consideration because of his expertise in pro- viding an excellent teaching program, as well as the experience and financial backing needed for the operation of the Pro Shop. During the period required for the selection process, staff reviewed and amended the existing contract to reflect more effectively the concerns which were expressed by Council and staff during the discussion on tennis programming and operation of a tennis facility. (See attached agreement) Of particular interest is the section which deals with the monthly stipend ($500 per month under the existing agreement) that the City is paying the Pro-Manager for promotions, staff, publicity and overall enhancement of the tennis program. As noted under Section 3 (e), (f) and (g),.during the first year this amount will remain at $500 per month, the second year it is reduced to $250 per month and the third year it is eliminated, indicating our desire that this activity become self-supporting and resulting in a savings of $9,000 over a three-year period.
