HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Statement 1977/12/13 Item 201, l l Y Ut' l,l1ULH V I ~ I H COUNCIL AGENDA STATEMENT Item Nn. 20 For meeting of 12/13/77 ITEM TITLE Resolution #8926 - Adopting regulations for candidates for elective office pertaining to materials submitted to the electorate and the costs thereof SUBMITTED BY City Clerk ITEM EXPLANATION (4/5TH'S VOTE REQUIRED YES NO x ) On May 6, 1976, the Attorney General of the State of California issued the opinion that a candidate may not be billed for the additional cost of preparing candidates' statements in Spanish if such were not requested by the candidate, but were required solely by reason of recent amendments to the Federal Voting Rights Act of 1965. Since that time, most of the cities surveyed have adopted the policy to pay for all the Spanish translations.
