ITEM TITLE Resolute proving PACE memorandum of agreement SUBMITTED BY Acting City Librarian ITEM EXPLANATION (4/5TH'S VOTE REQUIRED YES NO X ) On March 9, 1977, the City Council approved resolution no. 8519 supporting the University of California's grant application for public cable television programming for the elderly (PACE). The grant has subsequently been approved and PACE is in operation. The University of California at San Diego, Extension Division, is administering the grant and the project. The PACE project will establish learning Resource Centers and cable television viewing centers for the older adult in various locations in the San Diego area. At these centers seniors can have input into the production of cable television programming which will satisfy information needs in areas of consumerism, social service delivery, and participation in government, as well as sharing of resources and talents by seniors. Chula Vista's participation will involve providing space in the CATV room of the Library for video production and designating time and space for seniors to view resulting programs. The attached hemorandum of Agreement stipulates that Chula Vista will provide workspace and access to video equipment and PACE will provide one employee for 10 hours per week and 200 blank video cassettes for the duration of the project. There is no fiscal impact upon the Library Department.
