COUNCIL AGENDA STATEMENT ~ ~ Item No. li
For meeting of 3/14/78
ITEM TITLE Resolution~g0~: Approving the Cooperative Agreement for the Construction
of the Commuter Bikeway
SUBMITTED BY Community Development Director
ITEM EXPLANATION (4/5TH'S VOTE REQUIRED YES. N0~)
At the Redevelopment meeting on March 2, 1978, the Redevelopment Agency approved the
Cooperative Agreement for the construction of the Commuter Bikeway. That Cooperative
Agreement was drafted by the cities of Chula Vista, San Diego, National City, Imperial
Beach and Coronado in cooperation with CALTRANS.
A majority of the bikeway in Chula Vista lies within the Bayfront Redevelopment Project;
therefore, the agreement was presented to the Redevelopment Agency for consideration.
However, since a portion of the proposed bikeway on the Chula Vista Bayfront is not within
the Redevelopment project the Cooperative Agreement is also being presented to the City
Council for its consideration.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
The Bay route Bikeway is being funded by a grant of $850,000 from the State of California.
It is anticipated that the grant will cover the total cost for construction. Since the
entire construction of the Commuter Bikeway is included in thy; grant amount, none of the
participating cities should be req:~ired to fund a portion of the construction. However,
each municipality is required to maintain the bikeway once it has been constructed.
