Accepting Bids and Awarding Contract for
ITEM TITLE Resolution 9~~ Dredging Three Lakes at Chula Vista Municipal
Golf Course and Appropriating Funds
SUBMITTED BY Director of Public Works/City Engineer {/,
ITEM EXPLANATION
(4/5TH'S VOTE REQUIRED YES X NO )
At 11:00 a.m. on June 20, 1978, in the Engineering/Planning Conference
Room, the Director of Public Works received sealed bids for dredging
three lakes at Chula Vista Municipal Golf Course. The scope of the
project includes dredging approximately 13,660 cubic yards of ma-
terial from three lakes and dumping the material at two disposal
sites on the golf course. This project is necessary to provide
storage capacity for irrigation of the golf course. At this time,
sufficient capacity is not available and is causing severe prob-
lems in regard to watering the golf course.
Bids were received from three contractors as follows:
1. Enniss Enterprises, Inc. $36,221
2. Zinser-Furby, Inc. $89,000
3. Ripley Construction Co. $95,000
Staff contacted the San Diego Port District to see if the low bid
was appropriate for tk~:work contemplated. It was their opinion
that the cost per cubic yard for material dredged for this type
of operation could range from $3 to $5. The bid price is approxi-
mately $2.65 a cubic yard. Staff believes this is an acceptable
bid.
