SUBMITTED BY Director of Public Works/City Engineer /, ~ ITEM EXPLANATION (4/5TH'S VOTE REQUIRED YES NO x) The City Council on September 13, 1977, by Resolution No. 8812 established an Undergrounding Utility District on Third Avenue from "G" Street to "K" Street. In accordance with Section 15.32.150 of the Chula Vista Municipal Code, City Council Resolution No. 8812 states that the City Council shall by subsequent resolution fix the date on which affected property owners must be ready to receive underground service and the date the poles, overhead wires, and associated overhead structures shall be removed. On July 11, 1978, staff received a letter from San Diego Gas & Electric Company in which SDG&E states that it will take them 155 working days to complete their work for the undergrounding conversion of Third Avenue. Based upon their schedule, they are recommending that December 15, 1978, be set as the date for customers to be ready to receive underground service within the district. San Diego Gas & Electric Company would complete their work on or about February 26, 1979. On July 18, 1978, staff received a letter from Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company in which they recommend that July 1, 1979, be established as the date for poles, overhead wires, and associated over- head structures be removed. On July 5, 1978, the City Council by Resolution No. 9173 granted a temporary exemption from undergrounding overhead utilities within the Third Avenue Undergrounding District between "H" and "I" Streets. Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company, however, in their letter of July 17, 1978, has requested that the property owners along the east ,_ side of Third Avenue from "H" to "I" Streets be ready to receive underground telephone service by December 15, 1978. The Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company is proceeding with the conversion of their facilities within the district between "H" and "I" Streets. This necessitates the need for the property owners along the east side of Third Avenue to convert their telephone service to underground. A transparency is available for Council viewing. STAFF RECOMMENDATION 1. City Council set December 15, 1978, as the date the property in the Third Avenue Undergrounding District 108 from "G" to "H" Street and from "I" to "K" Street be ready to receive undergrounding service. 2. City Council set the date of December 15, 1978, as the date for property in the Third Avenue Underground District 108 along the east side of Third Avenue between "H" and "I" Streets be ready to receive underground telephone service. 3.
