COMMENDING THE CHULA VISTA POLICE DEPARTMENT, POLICE
RESERVES, AND CHULA VISTA FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR THEIR
HANDLING OF DYNAMITE EMERGENCY ON JULY 27, 1978
HEREAS, on Thursday, July 27, 1978, the Chula Vista Police Department
s inform d by the District Attorney's Office, and they in turn notified the Police
serves a d the Chula Yista Fire Department, that information had been received as
the Zoc tion of contraband dynamite in the City of Chula Vista, and
HEREAS, the Chula Vista Police, cooperating with the Sheriff's Department,
d'scovered and recovered some 1600 pounds of stolen dynamite in a locked garage on
S Bond and F Street in the City of Chula Vista, and
HEREAS, the most essential part of said operation was the evacuation of sur-
ng n ighbors in a very short period of time without creating a panic situation, and
HEREAS, the Chula Vista Police Department ably conducted the rapid evacuation
a d gave f ZZ assistance and cooperation to the Sheriff's Department, resulting in the
s fe remov Z of said dynamite with as little disruption to the citizens as possible,
a d
HEREAS, the efforte of the regular officers of the Chula Vista Police Depart-
m nt were ugmented and expedited by the rapid response of the Police Reserve officers
w o were p esent almost immediately upon caZ2, and
AEREAS, the Chula Vista Fire Department contributed to the efforts of the
P Zice Dep rtment in their endeavors and escorted the unstable dynamite to the Tidelands
A ea for s fe disposal.
OW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista
d ea hereb express their appreciation and admiration to the Chula Vista Police Depart-
m nt, Poli a Reserve officers and the Chula Vista Fire Department; especially all those
0 ficers a d Firefighters directly involved in the project for removal of dynamite on
T ursday, uZy 27, 1978 from the City of Chula Vista.
~E IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and she is, hereby directed
a d authorized to provide a certified copy of this resolution to the Chiefs of the Chula
V sta PoZi e and Fire Departments, WiZZiam J. Winters, and Clyde W. Longerbone.
