HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1989-15170 RESOLUTION NO. 15170 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA APPROVING THAT CERTAIN MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING CONCERNING WAGES AND OTHER TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA AND THE CHULA VISTA CHAPTER, WESTERN COUNCIL OF ENGINEERS FOR FISCAL YEAR 1989-90 The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve as follows: WHEREAS, the Management Negotiation Team representing the City Manager of the City of Chula Vista, acting for and on behalf of the City Council of the City of Chula Vista, have heretofore met and conferred with the Chula Vista Chapter, Western Council of Engineers, an organization representing certain members of classified employees in the City of Chula Vista, in accordance with the provisions of Section 3500 et seq. of the Government Code of the State of California, and WHEREAS, the Memorandum of Understanding jointly prepared by said parties as a result of meeting and conferring in good faith includes the following changes from the previous Memorandum of Understanding: 1. Wages All classifications represented by WCE will receive a 5.75% wage increase effective the first pay period in July 1989 (July 14, 1989). 2. Flexible Benefit Plan - The Market Basket amount will increase to $3,600 for WCE members effective July 1, 1989. In addition, the City agrees to study alternative benefit plans for possible consideration during next year's negotiations. 3. Holidays - The City agrees to discuss Martin Luther King Day as a potential holiday during next year's negotiations, but on a City-wide basis. 4. Classification Structure - The City agrees to examine the classification structure and career path afforded by existing engineering classifications. 5. Catastrophic Leave Policy City agrees to gather information for future consideration of a catastrophic leave policy. 6. Long-Term Disability Benefits - The City agrees to provide all WCE classifications the same terms for long-term disability benefits as afforded middle managers, if approved by -1- the insurance underwriters currently being consulted. (Middle managers currently are eligible for LTD benefits until age 65, while WCE members can be required to accept non-engineering jobs after one year if their disability prevents them from performing in their normal occupation.) NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista that the compensation of said employees will become fixed and certain pursuant to agreement of the parties effective July 14, 1989. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby approve and accept the Memorandum of Understanding as described above for fiscal year 1989-90. ~ Presented by Approved as to form by E.
