The following trial traffic regulation has been in effect for eight
mon s:

On my 25, 1978, the City Council directed staff to install left
tur lanes on East "L" Street between Monserate and Melrose Avenues.
Thi restriping necessitated the removal of on-street parking
bet een a point 120 feet west of Monserate Avenue and Monterey
Cou t.
Eas "L" Street was restriped ~t the end of August, 1978, and it is
now time to consider making the trial traffic regulation which
pro ibits parking permanent.
The following data compares the accidents in the period eight months
pri r to installation of the lift turn lanes vs. eight months since
the installation:

It hould be noted that the twp rear end accidents in the period
Sep Apr involved an illegally parked vehicle and a driver who was
and r "extreme emotional stress."
The left turn lanes have reduced accidents and improved the traffic
flo on East "L" Street betweem Monserate and Melrose Avenues. It
is ecommended that this trial traffic regulation be made permanent.
