Personnel increases in the Police Department have created the need to expand this project, and this expansion requires the expenditure of additional funds for architectural and engineering studies. RECOMMENDATION: Adopt resolution appropriating funds. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: N.A. DISCUSSTDN_ This project initially involved the expansion of the Crime/Photography Lab and moving this function, along with some property storage, to the basement of the Police Facility. There is a need now to move the remaining property storage into the basement in order to free up additional ground level building space to accommodate personnel increases associated with the Montgomery annexation and the patrol workload increases. This action will allow maximum utilization of the ground floor for office expansion now and in the future. This expansion will take place along with the new Communications Center Project, which will follow the Crime Lab Project. The space vacated by the Crime Lab will accommodate new as well as displaced office space from a relocated and enlarged Communications Center. The storage of all property in the basement was not considered in the original plans, and the architectural work involved was not covered in the original contract. These types of changes are classified as "Extra Architectural Services" in the contract and, as such, they require the payment of additional funds at the hourly rates set forth in Section II, C of the Shorn/Kaminski contract. The additional amount to be appropriated is $9,020. FISCAL IMPACT: Appropriate $9,020 from the unappropriated balance of the General Fund to Account No. 600-6000 RS 36.
