Meeting Date 11/10/81 Resolution ~j~d ~~ Approving agreement with City of National City for use of Chula Vista Animal Shelter Services SUBMITTE[~ BY: Director of Public Safet '" (4/5ths Vote: Yes NoX ) Chula Vi to has contractually agreed with the City of National City since 1965 to provide animal s elter services to that city. The 1980-81 agreement expired June 30, 1981 and, by mutual consent, all services have been provided under terms of the old agreement while the ter s of the new contract were being analyzed and compared with an offer by the County of San iego to provide similar shelter service to the City of National City. A negotiated agreeme t, retroactive to July 1, 1981, has now been agreed upon. It is my RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council adopt the resolution. BOARDS/aOMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: N.A. DISCUSS The pro osed agreement is basically the same as in past years as to the services to be provide although there has been an increase in the monthly rate and in the method of allowin credit for fees collected for National City. The change essentially provides that fe s collected for impounds and adoptions of National City animals will be credited on a mo thly basis against the base monthly fee. Since this procedure will involve more staff t me, a 1% surcharge will be applied to the amount due each month. In previous contrac s, credits for fees collected were adjusted annually in the new contract, and the base mo thly rates established. The pro. osed contract increasc5 National City's monthly base fee from $1,407 to $1,605 per month a the base figure, from which monthly impound and adoption fees will be deducted. The inc ease in the base monthly fee ,is primarily due to salary increases and the increased cost of utilities in the operation of the animal shelter. The base monthly rate applicable to the ity of National City is calculated on the basis of a 38% usage of the facility by Nationa City. FISCAL ] of July National leaving ERA:mab MPACT: The contract will provide revenue to the City of $19,260 for the period 1, 1981 through June 30, 1982, less an estimated $ 4,000 credit to the City of City for impound and redemption fees collected on National City animals, net income of approximately $15,260 for the period.
