The Mayoral Election was held in conjunction with the
Consolidated General Election on Tuesday, November 3, 1981.
The number of registered voters in the City: 38,890.
The total number of ballots cast: 10,736.
In accordance with the City Clerk's Certificate of Canvass,
GREGORY R. COX received the majority number of votes for
the office of Mayor - 7,678 - 71.520.
PROPOSITION "J" providing for the Charter amendment to
allow for an all-mail ballot election for elections other
than Council/Mayor's Office, passed by a vote of 5858 to
3533.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Council approve the Resolution.
DISCUSSION: The Canvass is based on the official tally
made by the Registrar of Voters on November 4 and 5, 1981.
Copies of this tally which shows the votes cast by
precincts will be sent to each of the candidates.
(The official tally will not be delivered to the City Clerk
until Monday, November 9 and will be given to the City Council
at the November 10 meeting).
FINANCIAL IMPACT: Not known at this time.
