I b lieve that by eliminating the regular maintenance of trees between the
sid alk and the dwelling the tree crews can maintain City trees in a safe,
heal by and generally aesthetic condition and continue to complete its work
pro ram without an increase in staff. It will take a few years to validate
thi statement. However, if this policy is not passed, then continued and
pos ible accelerated deterioration of the City s street tree program is likely
to a sul t.

FIS AL IMPACT: Although there are no immediate hard dollar savings,
are cost avoidance savings realized as a result of the adoption of this
res lution. In order to affectively maintain existing trees an additional
688 staff hours would be required. The adoption of this resolution will
avo d that cost.
