South County Economic Development COlJncil
December 6, 2010
Honorable Councilmember McCann and Chula Vista City Council,
The South County Economic Development Council would like to take this opportunity
to thank Councilmember John McCann for his tireless service to the City of Chula Vista
and, in turn, the entire South San Diego County Region. Councilmember McCann has
served a strong advocate for economic growth and businesses in our region during his
tenure on the Chula Vista City Council and he has consistently worked to promote
future growth by creating a dynamic economic base for South County.
During Councilmember McCann's years of service on the council, Chula Vista has seen'
great growth and improvements. Residents have seen a new Regional Mall, numerous
commercial centers and a design district in Eastlake that adds to the diversity of
shopping option for residents throughout the entire County. Council member McCann
has also made a significant contribution toward the City's efforts to pass the General
Plan Update and Urban Core Specific Plan for Downtown Chula Vista Renewal. Each of
these will lead to a strong focused growth in our communities. He has frequently
spoken about his belief that Chula Vista and South San Diego County are places where
innovation and new and exciting projects can happen. South County EDC is
appreciative of his efforts toward the University land deal, which will result in further
expansion of Research and Education opportunities here, and his work on the Bayfront
Master Plan, which has a bright future as a new and exciting showcase for everything
Chula Vista has to offer.
Councilmember McCann has always been an advocate for the economic interests of
South County and we at the South County EDC sincerely thank him for his vision and
work in investing in our future. South County EDC strongly believes that quality
education is a significant component of our region's economic future and we look
forward to John McCann's service on the Sweetwater Union High School District as a
committed partner in his new role.
Thank you again, Councilmember McCann, for your dedicated service these past eight
years and we look forward to your continued service to our community in the future.
Thanks,
(!JV;~~
