ITEM TITLE: RESOLUTION: Amending Resolution 9638 which establishes Salary Bands
for Executive Management

Each year the City Council adopts a resolution establishing salary bands for executive
management. Through the year changes in classifications and assigned salary bands can
occur.'. Recently, a change was made effecting these salary bands. Therefore, it is my
RECOMMENDATION: That Council:
1., Amend Resolution 9638 by adding thereto a new classification Director of Public
Safety, Salary Band E4 ($2400-$3400) to be effective 2/1/80.
2., Amend Resolution 9638 by deleting therefrom the classification of Purchasing Agent
to be effective 3/1/80.

DISCUSSIION
Following the retirement of the Fire Chief, the Council approved the appointment of one
individual to oversee both the Police and Fire Departments. This function was to be per-
formed by someone in a new position Director of Public Safety.
In another reorganization effort the Purchasing Department was merged into the Finance
Department. With this action the classification of Purchasing Agent was no longer
conside'~^ed as part of the executive management group and, therefore, should be deleted
from the executive salary bands.
