HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1989-15293 Revised 9/8/89 R~SOLUTION NO. 15293 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA EXPRESSING SUPPORT OF A STRONG NATIONAL DRUG POLICY The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve as follows: WHEREAS, the drug problem in our country has reached crisis proportions, and WHEREAS, the drug problem cannot be dealt with appropriately by cities acting alone, and WHEREAS, it is necessary to establish a cooperative effort of local, State and Federal government agencies if we are to succeed in comOating the drug problem, and WHEREAS, the Federal government is now considering a new national drug policy. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby express its support for a strong national drug policy. B~ IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City o~ Chula Vista believes that the national drug policy should include: 1. Provisions to sentence dealers of deadly drugs to li~e terms of imprisonment; 2. Provisions that would permit forfeiture of all assets of drug dealers which would then be committed to drug enforcement programs; 3. Provisions for the construction of "no frills" desert prisons; 4. Provisions to use military forces to guard borders to prevent drug smuggling; 5. Military aid to countries which are fighting drug lords; 0. Economic sanctions to countries that give aid and comfort to drug producers; 7. Anti-drug education in every school starting in first grade; -1- Programs to make drug treatment available to every addict who desires treatment; 9. Programs to ensure adequate child care; 10. A commitment to a quality education for every American chila; 11. A commitment to provide job opportunities for every American youth; 12. A program to be developed in conjunction with international financial institutions to stimulate economic development in countries in order to provide a substitute for economies which are currently based on drug production.
