On February 22, 1988, Mrs. Vicki M. Bolin telephoned and requested the
installation of stop signs on either Marl Avenue or Talus Street.
RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council adopt resolution authorizing the
installation of stop signs on Marl Avenue at Talus Street.
BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: The Safety Commission at their regular

Presently, there are no traffic control devices at the intersection. A review
of our accident records show that over the two-year period, from April 1, 1986
to March 31, 1988, there were two reported accidents. The accident which
occurred on February 2, 1988 is the one which damaged the chain link fence on
the south east corner at 256 Talus Street. About nine years ago on May 10,
1979, there was a fatal accident at this intersection which involved two
children riding skateboards southbound on Marl Avenue and a vehicle westbound
on Talus Street.
A Two-Way Stop Survey was conducted in which this intersection received a
total of 20 points out of a possible 30 points. Since it received more than
the required 18 points, it is staff's recommendation that stop signs be
installed on Marl Avenue because since this street carries a lessor volume of
traffic.
FISCAL IMPACT: $150.
