On December 8, 1987, the City Council by Resolution No. 13375 awarded a contract for the landscaping of Marina Park, E, H & J Street entries and J Street median to Roca Construction, Inc. The work is now completed. RECOMMENDATION: That Council adopt a resolution accepting the contract work. BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable. DISCUSSION: On March 24, 1988, Roca Construction, Inc. completed the landscaping of Marina Park, E, H & J Street entries and J Street median. A final inspection was made on March 25, 1988 and all work was found to be completed in accordance with the contract plans and specifications. The City Engineer, the Director of Planning and the Director of Parks and Recreation are satisfied with the work performed by the contractor. Landscaping and irrigation systems were installed at the E, H and J Street entries (at I-5) as required by the contract plans and specifications. Each entry's irrigation system was to be connected to water supply sources shown to be nearby on record drawings used to design the project. After construction commenced on the H Street median island, it was learned that a source of water did not exist westerly of the M.T.D.B. trolley tracks. It was determined that the water line that had served this island had been severed at the time the new MTDB trackage was installed. The estimated cost of extending a water service through the M.T. D.B. right-of-way, under the tracks is about $3,000. Staff is currently investigating other alternatives that may be available to • secure a water supply that would not require extending a line through MTDB right-of-way. The H Street entry landscaping will be maintained by City staff until the most cost effective water supply alternative is chosen and implemented. • Page 2, Item 8 _ Meeting Date _ The Landscape Architect met with Mayor Cox and while his concerns have been partially addressed, they did not essentially involve the final product the contractor was asking us to accept. His work did comply with the specifications he was obligated to follow and the Mayor's concerns may be addressed later if City Council directs. FINANCIAL STATEMENT: I.
