Bids were received from three (3) electrical contractors to install the traffic signals. • RECOMMENDATION: That Council accept the bids and award the contract to MCR, Electrical Contractors, Inc. in the amount of $124,443 and appropriate $10,000 from the Development Impact Fee. BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable. DISCUSSION: In the past, electrical contractors have indicated to staff that they are able to do two or three traffic signal installations more economically than a single project. With this in mind, these two budgeted CIP projects, being located in the same general area of the City, were advertised by staff as one lump sum contract in hopes of receiving better bids.* Bids were received from three qualified contractors as follows: 1. MCR Electrical Contractors, Inc. - Imperial Beach $124 443 2. D & H Perry Electric Co. -Spring Valley 124 800 3. Select Electric - San Diego 136,184 The low bid by MCR Electrical Contractors, Inc. was above the engineer's estimate of $119,000 by $5,443 or 4.37 percent. We have reviewed the low bid and believe it to be satisfactory and recommend awarding the contract to MCR Electrical Contractors, Inc. • *Staff is evaluating if the multiple sign bid procedure was cost effective and will report the results of that evaluation at the meeting.
