The unit will be used by Public Works for excavation and street work. RECOMMENDATION: That Council adopt the resolution awarding the contract to Hawthorne Machinery Company. Bid specifications required a three-speed power shift automatic transmission which is consistent with the type of transmission in other City equipment. One additional factor in the Public Works Department's experience with both Case and Caterpillar loaders is that the per hour maintenance and repair cost of the Caterpillar is lower than the existing Case units. Based on meeting the specifications and maintenance history of all of the makes of loaders, it is recommended that the bid be accepted from Hawthorne for the Caterpillar 916. FISCAL IMPACT: The Loader is budgeted in the Equipment Replacement Fund. The total cost is $43,248.99 with sufficient funds provided for in the budget.
