HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Statement 1988/04/12 Item 10 Page 2, Item 10 • Meeting Date 4/12/88 A final inspection was made on April 4, 1988 and all work was found to be completed in accordance with the contract plans and specifications to the satisfaction of the City Engineer. As of March 10, 1988 (the date of our latest accounting report), staff costs for the three projects totalled $13,754.26 (includes a 1.73 full cost recovery factor) and are expected to reach $14,000.00 when all expenditures are reported. Funds appropriated to cover this expense were underestimated and amount to $7,800. However, construction fund costs were less than budgeted, resulting in a $4,097.04 positive balance. When this balance is applied to the staff cost shortfall, the remaining shortfall is $2,102.96. To cover the difference, staff proposes to use surplus CDBG funds from the Chula Vista Junior High School Storm Drain Project, which was completed in November of 1987 with an unused balance of $16,930.21. Therefore, it is recommended that Council approve the transfer of $2,102.96 from that project to the sidewalk projects to cover the staff costs shortfall. The funds will be used to reimburse the General Fund for staff costs expenditures. The balance remaining in the storm drain project after the transfer ($14,827.25) will be rebudgeted as part of the 1988-89 CDBG budget process. Staff costs exceeded the budgeted amount because the Orange Avenue project included the construction of a "Loffelstein" retaining wall never before used • in the City. Thus, staff had to spend more time to familiarize with the proper construction methods. FINANCIAL STATEMENT: I.
