SUBMITTED BY: Director of Pars nd Recreation
REVIEWED BY: City Manager ~~Y ~~' (4/5ths Vote: Yes No X
At its meeting of February 23, 1988, the City Council approved the donation of
a 15-passenger City vehicle to the Girls and Boys Club subject to the
condition that the Club provide an acceptable pick-up schedule before
ownership title is transferred.
RECOMMENDATION: That Council donate a 15-passenger van to the Girls and
Boys Club of Chula Vista.
BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable.
DISCUSSION:
• At the February 23, 1988 Council meeting, staff recommended that Council
approve the donation of a 15-passenger van to the Girls and Boys Club of Chula
Vista, subject to legal title be returned to the City upon the issuance of the
occupancy permit for a youth community center and during the course of Club
ownership and possession of this vehicle, the Club maintain sufficient
collision insurance coverage to protect the fair market value of the vehicle.
The City Council, however, decided to give the vehicle to the Club subject to
the Club submitting a pickup schedule to the City. A letter asking for this
information (Attachment A) was mailed to the Club on February 24, 1988. The
attached "tentative" schedule submitted by the Club, in staff's judgment, did
not totally meet the request of the City Council. The Club was so informed
and late April 1, 1988, provided the attached clarification and explanation of
their "tentative" pickup schedule (Attachment B). Staff believes that the
Club may well need a "testing period" before being able to realistically
establish a firm schedule. If the City Council concurs and believes the
information furnished meets the expectations of the Council, we would
recommend that you approve the resolution.
FISCAL IMPACT: The vehicle costing $16,500 has already been purchased by
the City, thus eliminating the need for any additional appropriation.
