SUBMITTED BY: Director of Public Works ~'~" REVIEWED BY: City Manager ~~ ~~ (4/5ths Vote: Yes No X ) On April 28, 1987, the City Council by Resolution No. 13009 awarded a contract to Erreca's Inc. for the extension of Las Flores Drive north of "D" Street. This project is funded by 1913 Act Assessment District proceedings and consists of grading, street, drainage, sewer and utility improvements. To date, two change orders have been approved as follows: Change Order No. Approval Date Amount 1 June 5, 1987 $ 856.00 • 2 July 21, 1987 (Reso. #13161) (18,760.00) The net result was to decrease the contract amount from $1,195,970.00 to $1 ,178,066.00 Proposed Change Order No. 3 is for the deletion/addition of various items of work necessary to utilize portions of the existing sewer main rather than constructing an entire new sewer line. This change order will decrease the contract amount $14,799.00 to a revised amount of $1,163,267.00 RECOMMENDATION: That Council adopt the resolution approving Change Order No. 3 and authorizing the Director of Public Works to execute it on behalf of the City. BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable. DISCUSSION: The primary settlement of the new fill placed in Las Flores Drive has concluded and we may now continue with the installation of the project's underground facilities. During the grading operation and settlement period, we made a decision to utilize the existing sewer main instead of abandoning the existing sewer main and constructing a temporary high line. Television inspection of the sewer main and surveying measurements shows that damage to the existing line was limited to the northerly end of the project between manholes #2 and #4. Thus, there is no need to reconstruct the entire sewer • main, as was proposed under the original bid. • Page 2, Item 7 Meeting Date~/T~j$$ We have discussed the change in scope of the project with the Contractor. In fact, they have been very cooperative in redefining the limits of the sewer main reconstruction. With their cooperation we have agreed to: a. Utilize the existing sewer main from the south end of project to Manhole No. 2 (see locator map). b. Install a new 8-inch sewer main to the east and paralleling the existing main from existing Manhole No. 2 to Manhole No. 4. c. Install sewer laterals to the new or to the old sewer main as appropriate. d. Connect sewer mains to existing manholes. The above work will be done at a cost of $56,574.00. This work will result in a net savings of $14,799, as we will he able to delete from the original bid items of work totalling $71,373.00 ($71,373 less $56,574 equals $14,799). It should be noted that Change Order No. 2 deleted the temporary high line at a set savings of $18,760. Thus, the combined savings to the contract could amount to $33,559 ($14,799 plus $18,760). FISCAL IMPACT: The contract will be decreased by $14,799 due to proposed • Change Order No. 3. WPC 3625E • ~ ~Y t"~ ~~y ~,c~~:ncil of Chula Vida, C~,li~c~ nia { Dated ....- ,.~ ,: ,.
