Resolution 13 3q 8' Accepting bids and awarding contract
for traffic signal installation and minor street improvements
at East "H" Street/Buena Vista Way in the City of Chula Vista,
California; and appropriating $24,500 from the Traffic Signal
Fund to cover the construe ion contract amount in full.

At 2:00 p.m. on December 15, 1987, in Conference Room 2 in the Public Services
Building, the City Engineer received sealed bids for traffic signal
installation and minor street improvements at East "H" Street/Buena Vista Way
in the City of Chula Vista, California. Bids were received from three (3)
qualified electrical contractors to modify the intersection. $71,700 had been
appropriated by Council for this project.
RECOMMENDATION: That Council accept the bids and award the contract to P1CR
in the amount of $67,210 and appropriate $2B,50U from the Traffic Signal fund.
• BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable.
DISCUSSION:
Traffic signal installation at East "H" Street/Buena Vista Way is a project
that was budgeted as a three-legged intersection. At McPlillan's request,
staff changed the scope of the project to become a four legged intersection..
McP~•lillin Development Co. hired Rick Engineering to design the Traffic Signal
installation. Staff prepared the specifications and contract documents. The
signal poles and controller are being purchased under separate purchase order.
Bids were received from three qualified contractors as follows:
1. M.C.R. Electric - Imperial Beach $67,210
2. U&H Perry - Spring Valley 69,900
3. Select Electric - San Diego 75,955
The low bid by t~1.C.R. Electric was above the engineer's estimate of $64,050 by
approximately 5°~.
We have reviewed the low bid and believe it to be satisfactory and recommend
awarding the contract to M.C.R. Electric.
