ITEM TITLE: Resolution /,~3J~ Appropriating funds for the purchase of
an Animal Shelter ruck cage ~

A new replacement truck for the Animal Shelter was approved and purchased as a
part of the FY 1986-87 Equipment Replacement budget. A replacement cage to
fit on the truck was also approved in the original Equipment Replacement
budget; however, for some reason the cage was inadvertently not included in
the purchase of the truck and the unexpended funds have reverted to the
unappropriated balance of the Equipment Replacement Fund. The existing animal
transportation cage that was removed from the replaced animal regulation truck
is beyond repair in the estimation of the Equipment Maintenance Superintendent
and can no longer be used.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve resolution appropriating funds from the Equipment
• Replacement Fund unappropriated balance and authorize purchase of an Animobile
unit.
BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable.
DISCUSSION:
A replacement truck for the Animal Shelter was purchased as part of the
FY 1986-87 Equipment Replacement budget. The vehicle that was purchased was a
regular pick-up truck with a normal bed. We wi 11 have to remove the bed and
replace it with an animal transportation unit that bolts to the truck frame.
As indicated above, when the truck was first recommended for replacement, it
was intended that a new animal transportation unit be purchased as well;
however, for some reason the animal transportation unit was not
requisitioned along with the truck. The Equipment Replacement Superintendent
at first thought that the existing transportation unit could be placed on the
new truck; however, he has since decided that due to the condition of the
existing transportation unit, that will not be possible. The Senior Animal
Control Officer has researched available replacement options and is
recommending an Animobile 99 animal transportation unit at a cost of $6,500.
FISCAL IMPACT: Appropriate $6,500 from the unappropriated balance of the
Equipment Replacement Fund and authorize purchase of an Animobile Unit 99.
Sufficient funds are available in the unappropriated balance of the Equipment
Replacement Fund.
