prepare design plans for the renovation of Norman Park Center
Director of Parks and Recreation
City Manage r
(4/5ths Vote: Yes No X )
The Department sent Requests for Proposal (RFP) to architectural firms for
preparation of the design plans for Norman Park Center. A selection committee
comprised of members of the Parks and Recreation Department and the Building
Maintenance Superintendent interviewed six firms and selected Visions. Staff
is recommending the selection of Visions because of its experience in the
design/redesign of senior centers and its competitive fee.
RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council adopt the resolution approving an
agreement with Visions for development of design plans for Norman Park Center.
BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable.
• DISCUSSION:
Attached to the resolution is a copy of the proposed agreement with the firm.
The Architect will conduct a site analysis, interview staff, and prepare
schematic design plans. Analysis and design studies will encompass the
kitchen facilities, restrooms, office, meeting rooms, air conditioning system,
exterior, interior design, lighting and expansion of the center to accommodate
Senior Information and Referral Services and additional classrooms and meeting
rooms.
The proposed fee for this phase of the work is $16,520 plus $1,000 for
reimbursable expenses and $6,000 for soils report and topographic survey, if
needed. This phase will be completed by January 12, 1988. If Council accepts
the schematic design, a separate agreement will be negotiated with the firm
for the development of construction documents and bid specifications, bid
review and construction administration.
FISCAL IMPACT: The City has approximately $386,000 available for the design
and construction of improvements to Norman Park Center. This amount includes
the recent grant of $200,000 from the State, which will be available
January 1, 1988.
