SUBMITTED BY: Director of Parks and Recreation ~~
REVIEWED BY: City Manager ~ (4/5ths Yote: Yes X No )
At its meeting of September 15, 1987, the City Council directed staff to come
back with a substitute recommendati o~i arr~i a resolution for the purchase of a
transportation van to be leased to the Girls Club/Boys Club.
RECOMMENDATION: Adopt resolution appropriating funds from the
unappropriated reserves of the General Fund to purchase a transportation van.
This is with the understanding that once the City receives funds from Homart,
the General Fund ray be reimbursed.
BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable.
S SCUSSION:
Staff has determined that a 15-passenger van woul d be i deal for transporting
children to the Oleander facility and for other recreational purposes. Staff
has received concurrence from the Club that a van this size would suit their
needs. The van would be leased to the Girls and Boys Club during the
demolition of the facility on Fifth and "I" and the construction of the new
facility at Chula Vista High School. Once the new facility is opened, the lase
of this van will be re-evaluated.
It is noted that in order to alleviate any liability concerns, the terms and
conditions of the lease agreement will require the club to provide an
automobile liability policy naming the City as additional insured.
FISCAL IMPACT: A van of this size would cost $16,500. General Fund monies
would be used to purchase the van with the understanding that once funds are
received from Homart, the General Fund will be reimbursed.
