Director of Parks and Recreatio ---- REVIEWED BY: City Manager ~. ~~ (4/5ths Vote: Yes No X ) ITEM TITLE• Resolution ~~~ y ~ Rejecting bid for "Replacement of Wood • Floor at Parkway Gym ~n the City of Chula Vista, California" The Director of Public Works/City Engineer received sealed bids for "Replacement of Wood Floor at Parkway Gym in the City of Chula Vista, California. The work involves the replacement of approximately one quarter of the wood"flooring within the gym, as well as the sanding and refinishing of the entire gym floor, restriping of game lines, and repair of bleachers. RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council reject the bid. BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable. DISCUSSION: Only one bid was received for the replacement of the wood floors at Parkway Gym. The engineer's estimate for this project ranged from $30,000 to $40,000. The low bid by Gerard Construction, Inc. was for $51,426.00. The low bid has been evaluated by the Building Maintenance Superintendent and based on hi s review of the scope of work and contact with other contractors, recommended that the bid be rejected. The bid includes $36,000 for the floor work, $7,500 for bleacher repair and $7,500 for profit and overhead. Upon further examination of the bleachers, the Building Maintenance Superintendent has determined that City crews can make the necessary repairs for much less than $7,500 and recommends that the bleacher repair be removed from the bid specifications. Staff contacted other flooring contractors who can than $36,000.
