At the August 25, 1987, City Council meeting, Council requested staff to
obtain the cost associated with the acquisition of a trailer for use as a
City float.
RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council adopt resolution.
BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable.
DISCUSSION:
The City has been involved in several parades and special events that
necessitated the use of a trailer in order to build a parade float. The City
Council requested that staff research the cost associated with the acquisition
of a flatbed trailer to be used for this purpose.
In past discussions with members of the City's crime prevention committee and
75th Annual Diamond Jubilee Parade Committee, it was suggested that a flatbed
trailer could be assembled through volunteer efforts. It was proposedivate
trailer parts could be purchased or donated through a variety of p
sources. At the present time, such plans are preliminary in nature. Once the
trailer is operational, it would be used by various departments of the City.
The Diamond Anniversary Committee had estimated that $1,000 probably would be
sufficient to cover the cost of the trailer. However, staff has discovered
that a new and fully assembled trailer could be acquired for about $2,500.
Staff believes that it is preferable to purchase arade andaiseconstructed in
assure that it is available for the National City p
a safe and sound manner. It would be road safe and meet all the requirements
of the Department of Motor Vehicles.
