COUNCIL AGENDA STATEMENT Item I1 a , b Meeting Date 9-15-81 Resolution: ~'~0~'Approving an application for Roberti-Z'Berg State Block ITEM TITLE: Grant Funds Resolution:~n`> 9Approving applications for California Park Lands Act of 19$0 Funds SUBMITTED BY: Director of Parks and Recreation ~~~~ (4/5ths Vote: Yes Nog ) The City is eligible to apply for State Recreation Block Grant Funds under the provisions of the Roberti-Z'Berg Urban Open Space and Recreation Program and the California Park Land Act of 1980. City Council authorization to submit applications for these funds is required. Grant applications for five (5) separate projects have been prepared for Council's consideration and are included as exhibits. RECOMMENDATION Council approve Resolutions authorizing applications for Urban Open Space, and California Park Land Act of 1980 Funds. BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS: The proposed projects were reviewed and approved by the Parks and Recreation Commission at their August 20, 1981 meeting. DISCUSSION: The City of Chula Vista is eligible to apply for the following funds: FUND NAME AMOUNT California Park Land Act of 1980 $284,035 Roberti-Z'Berg Special Funds derived from 1980 Bond Act 61,117 TOTAL: $345,152 The following projects are proposed for funding with the above Block Grant Funds: PROJECT 1. Rienstra Sports Complex Renovation - Phase I 2. Rienstra Sports Complex Renovation - Phase II 3. Loma Verde Recreation Center Remodeling 4. Relamp 12" and 16" Ballfields 5. Phase I of the Rienstra Sports Complex Renovation is a FY 1981-82 Council approved CIP Project. The Roberti-Z'Berg Funds will be available during FY 1981-82 for this project. The Park Land Act Funds can not be made available by the State for expenditure before June 30, 1982. Pony Leagues and Miss Softball Leagues. Improvements to the drainage system, restrooms, parking lot, fencing and slopes are needed. A master plan has been prepared. The plan's estimated cost is $223,400. Work on this project is planned in phases. The Chula Vista City Council has appropriated $60,400 in City funds for the total project. See Attachment I for Cost Summary. Phase I costs are $142,000. A Roberti Z-Berg Grant in the i amount of $20,307 is being processed. The $61,117 Grant requested in this application will] be used to complete Phase I of the Project.
