On July 13, 1981 the Board of Appeals and Advisors unanimously approved updating the
wilding valuation multipliers for 1981-82.
RECOMMENDATION: That Council:
Approve this resolution adopting new building valuation multipliers for 1981-82.

Approve the resolution updating the building valuation multipliers.
DISCUSSION:
In order to provide building valuation that reflects the actual cost of construction and
to provide uniform valuation within San Diego County jurisdictions, the San Diego Area
Chapter, International Conference of Building Officials at their July meeting recommended.
that the member jurisdictions adopt the building valuation multipliers as reflected by
Marshall and Stevens Valuation Engineers and published in the March-April 1981 edition
of the Building Standards Magazine, the official publication of the International
Conference of Building Officials. It is necessary to maintain a fairly accurate building
cost valuation as the U. S. Department of Commerce uses the valuations to reflect
construction activity in the area.
The building valuation for the City of Chula Vista has not been changed since July 12, 1978.
Most of all the buildings and their type of construction has been increased over the 1978
valuation multipliers. As an example, the present valuation per square foot for a single
family dwelling of Type 5 frame construction is $32.00. The proposed valuation for 1981-82
will increase the square foot valuation to $42.00. The majority of the jurisdictions in
San Diego County have already adopted the new valuation multipliers.
