City Engineer ~,~ ( / ~- Helton's Construction Company has requested an extension of cantract time for the remodeling of the existing restaurant building and overhead trellis. It is my RECOMMENDATION: That Council approve the resolution granting a 15 working day extension of contract time to Helton's Construction Comapny setting the new completion date to September 25, 1981. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable. DISCUSSION: Jessie Helton was awarded the contract, dated April 14, 1981, which provided for 90 working days to complete the contract work. The contract completion date is September 2,-1981. Memorial Park improvements is being done under four separate contracts; grading and surface improvements, landscape and irrigation, outdoor lighting and well lights, and the remodeling of the existing restaurant building. The three other contracts provided for 120 working days, while Helton's contract allowed 90 working days. Because of the uniqueness of the Memorial Park project, each separate contract work was dependent on each other. The other contractors had to complete certain work before Helton could proceed. Helton's remodeling work was essentially at a standstill fora significant portion of his contract time waiting for the other contractors to complete their work. Helton's Construction Company is responsible for the outside of the remodeled building. City forces are responsible for completing all interior work to the building. Work to the building is expected to be completed and ready for occupancy by November 1, 1981. We have reviewed Helton's request for an extension of time and have determined that a 15 working day time extension is justified. The extension when granted will change the contract completion date to September 25, 1981. FISCAL I P~1PACT The City is presently paying rent on a month to month basis for the existing Seniors Referral Center. Delay in the completion of the project could cost the City an additional month's rent which is $300.00. Extending Helton's contract time 15 working days has no fiscal impact on the City since Helton's contract time did not expire until September 2nd and the City has to in any event rent the existing facility for the Seniors Referral Center for the month of September.
