Meeting Date x/14/81 Resolution l~~ Requesting the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Diego to permit the Registrar of Voters to con- solidate the Mayor's Election with the Consolidated General Election to be held on November 3, 1981a.nd Runoff El ction if needed (4/5ths Vote: PYes No X ) City Clerk Permission to consolidate the Mayor's Election with the Consolidated General Election on November 3, 1981 needs the approval of the County Board of Supervisors. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution requesting the consolidation.. DISCUSSION: The Mayor's election will be held on November 3, 1981. The candidate receiving the majority vote will take office on November 10, 1981. In the event no candidate receives the majority vote, a special election will be called on January 12, 1982. The resolution reflects this probability. Nominations for the April 13, 198:2 General Municipal Election will open around January 15, 1982. FISCAL IMPACT: Not known at this time. Box 23044 San Diego, CA 92123 ~.,~ ; .~ (',qty o~ CG~u.Qa ~U~s~a CALIFORNIA At the meeting of July 14, 1981, the City Council approved Resolution No. 10544 requesting consolidation of this City's Mayoral Election with the Consolidated General Election to be held on November 3, 1981. Not delineated in the Resolution were the services this City wishes your office to perform for this election. Generally, the services will be the same as they had been for the past ten or fifteen years, specifically: 1. Furnish a tabulation of the number of registered voters in each precinct. 2. Examine the signatures on nomination papers or petitions of candidates for the office of Mayor. 3. Establish voting precincts, secure locations for polling places, secure the services of election officers for each precinct as required by Iaw, and furnish a list of precincts, polling places and election officers for filing in the office of the City Clerk. 4. Prepare and furnish to the election officers necessary election supplies for the conduct of this election. 5. Cause to be translated, as appropriate, and printed the requisite number of sample ballots, official ballots, polling place slips, rosters, tally sheets and other necessary forms. /0 ~~~ 276 Fourth Avenue, Chula Vista, CA 92010 (714) 575-5041 ,... S Registrar of Voters -2- July 15, 1981 6. Furnish and address the envelopes necessary to mail sample ballots to the registered voters of the City of Chula Vista. 7. Insert the sample ballots and other printed matter into envelopes for mailing, and cause the same to be mailed, as required by law. 8. Assemble the election material and supplies into ballot bags . and make necessary arrangements for their delivery to the various precincts. 9. Distribute absent voter ballots as required by law. 10. Receive the returns of the elections and supplies. 11. Sort and assemble the election material and supplies in preparation for the canvassing of the returns of the election. 12. Canvass the returns of the election, including the absent voters ballots. 13. Furnish a tabulation of the number of votes given in each precinct. 14. Make all arrangements and take the necessary steps to pay the members of the precinct boards, the polling place rentals, the persons returning the ballot bags, and to pay all other costs of the election incurred as a result of services performed for the City of Chula Vista and pay for the election officials the amounts prescribed by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Diego. ~ini~~--I+~.
