The Bayfi•ont Coalition Settlement Agreement on the Chula Vista Bayfiont outlined the establishment of a Wildlife Advisory Group (WAG) to advise the Port/City/RDA on the development of the Natural Resource Management Plan (NRMP) fox the Bayfxont Plan. The city of Chula Vista agreed to designate persons to fill 3-4 seats on the WAG Councilwoman Bensoussan xeconunends that the attached procedure be adopted by Council. 10-1 Chula Vista City Council Appointments to the South Bay Wildlife Advisory Group APPOINTMENTS: The South Bay Wildlife Advisory Group (WAG) (Section 10.3) includes representatives from many organizations. The city of Chula Vista agreed to designate persons to fill 3-4 seats on the WAG. These categories are: • 1 representative nominated by the Resource Conservation Commission (ratified by Council) • ~ 1 Chula Vista resident from Northwest Chula Vista appointed by Council • ~ 1 Chula Vista resident from Southwest Chula Vista appointed by Council • 1 Chula Vista resident from east of I-805 appointed by Council PURPOSE AND FUNCTION: The function of the WAG is to advise the Pott/City/RDA on the development of the Natural Resource Management Plan (NRMP) for the Bayfront Plan to ensure protection of wildlife and natural resources. MEETING COMMITMENT: The meeting schedule for the WAG is currently unknown and is expected to vary based on the work of the committee. The Bayfront Coalition Settlement Agreement states that the WAG must hold its first meeting within six months of the certification of the EIR which falls in November. There will be an organizational meeting in November to meet the conditions of the Settlement Agreement but the work of the WAG is not expected to begin until the December, 2010 meeting. PROPOSED TIMELINE for Wildlife Advisory Group Appointment Process: 1. October 26th Announce and Appointment Process z. November 26th application deadline for three residents' seats and request to the RCC to appoint the RCC member to the WAG. 3. November 26th - 30th Evaluation of applications by Councilmember and interviews of any applicant supported by two Councilmembers to fill the resident seats. a. Week of December 7`h Interviews of finalists by Full Council. Appointment made. MEMBER SHIP CRITERIA: Successful applicants should submit a resume addressing the applicants experience or qualifications in one or more of the following criteria. 1. Demonstrated experience in wildlife-related issues such as habitat restoration or wildlife management. z. Demonstrated experience in ecology, biology, chemistry, water quality or watershed protection. 3. Demonstrated experience in ecosystem management and restoration, a. Demonstrated experience in nature-based or environmental education and similar fields. 5. Demonstrated experience in wildlife rehabilitation and/or predator management. 10-2
