Ordering the continuation of the Town Centre No. 1 Street Lighting and Landscape Maintenance District 1981-82 and levying the assessments City Eng !neer ~ (4/5ths Vote: Yes_No-",--1 Last year was the first year for the establishment of the Town Centre No. 1 Street Lighting and Land scape Ma i n tenance Di str ict. As required by the State Code, this is a public hearing to review the assessments for the next fiscal year and accompanying resolution to order the formation of the district and to affirm the assessments. It is my SUBMITTED BY: RECOMMENDATION: That Council: 1. Conduct the public hearing. 2. Take appropriate action on protest. 3. Approve the resolution forming the district and levying the assessments. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable. DISCUSSION: Last year the City advertised for bids and awarded the maintenance contract to Mazon Landscape, Inc. to maintain the district for a period of a year. That company did not enter into the contract agreement and the City, therefore, rescinded the award of the contract. We hired a contract employee (who had worked for the landscape contractor who buil t the improvements earlier) to maintain the landscaping and benches on Third Avenue. This employee has done an excellent job during the last year and the City is very satisfied with his services. Therefore, we will be continuing to use his services during the next fiscal year. It is anticipated that that beautification project will be constructed during the first six months of 1982 and the district will pick up the maintenance responsibility beginning in July of 1982. Those revised assessments will be reflected in the program for FY1982-83.
