Item 12 Meeting Date 1&81 ITEM TITLE: Ordinance IfJIJ - Amending Chapter 8.08 and Repealing ~8 .12.060 of the Municipal Code, all relating to Fees for Food Handlers' Permits and Registration Cards SUBMITTED BY: Ci ty Attorney SECOND READING AND i\DOf-'rJOr{4/5ths Vote: Yes No~) BACKGROUND: The County of San Diego in December of 1980 adopted amendments to their regulatory ordinances relating to fees for food handlers' permits, registration cards and training requirements. The County has requested that the City appropriately amend its Municipal Code to adopt said ordinance by reference so that there may be uni- formity throughout the County. RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council adopt the proposed ordinance BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: N/A DISCUSSION: .- The City Manager's office received a letter from the County of San Diego dated December 1, 1980 over the signature of Donald G. Ramras, M.D. The County Health Officer requested that we adopt certain regulatory ordinances "to maintain a uniformity in regu- latory provisions within the County". -. The County has also requested that the City adopt current ordinances which establish training programs for food handlers with a requirement for a passing grade of 70% in some nine different subjects ranging from microorganisms of foodborne disease to sanitation and safety management for a Service Manager Training Certificate. At the present time, it is suggested that the City merely adopt the increased fee schedule and the modifi- cations of the display of documents requirements so that the training program may be further studied. It is clearly to the City's interest to approve the County's inspection fee schedule since the City must compensate the County for any differential if fees are paid in accordance with the current City ordinance. . Therefore, it is requested that the ordinance relating only to fees for food handlers' permits and registration cards be adopted at the present time and that the staff will return to the Council at a later date with a recommendation relating to the training programs. We would still include within the ordinance the repea~_,~~.,.c of that section relating._t9~.ub~r011os .
