I tern 9 Meeting Date 10/25/88 ITEM TITLE: RESOLUTION /~I' /7 Accepting street easements from San Diego Gas and Electric Company and San Diego Trust and Savings Bank for installation of a cul-de-sac on Fig Avenue Community Development Directo~ (4/5ths Vote: Yes No X ) SUBMITTED BY: REVIEWED BY: Ci ty ManagerO' -- The closure of Fi g Avenue to through tra ffi c between H and I Streets is a required mitigation measure for the Town Centre II Redevelopment Project. On April 26, 1988, Council approved the installation of a landscaped cul-de-sac on Fig Avenue immediately north of Shasta Street. In order to install the cul-de-sac, property from the adjacent property owners -- San Diego Trust and Savings Bank and San Diego Gas and Electric Company -- must be dedicated. Both property owners have granted easements to the City for installation of the cul-de-sac. The easements must be accepted before project construction can begin. RECOMMENDATION: That Council accept the street easements from San Diego _Trust and Savings Bank and San Diego Gas and Electric Company for installation f a cul-de-sac on Fig Avenue and direct the City Clerk to record the easements. BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable. DISCUSSION: San Diego Gas and Electric Company has approved granting a street easement for 279.22 square feet of property at the northeast corner of Fig Avenue and Shasta Street. San Diego Trust and Savings Bank has approved granting a street easement for 406.5 square feet of property at the northwest corner of Fig Avenue and Shasta Street. In both cases the property affected is a parking lot and driveway. The bank will lose one parking space as a result of the project, but SDG&E representatives state that, with minor restriping of their lot, SDG&E can maintain the same number of parking spaces after the easement dedi cati on. The affected properti es are descri bed on the easement dedication documents and diagram attached as Exhibit A. FISCAL IMPACT: The SDG&E easement is being granted to the City without cons i derati on. The bank I s easement is bei ng granted in return for the City paying the bank's share of the cost of widening Fig Avenue on the west side, north of Shasta Street. The amount of the bank's share has been estimated at $3,000.
