Resolution Accepting bids and awarding contract
for street light installation at Hermosa Avenue between Orange
Avenue and Main Street in the City of Chula Vista, CA and

At 2:00 p.m. on September 13, 1988, in Conference Room 5 of the Public
Services Building, the City Engineer received sealed bids for the installation
.Of 13 street 1 i ghts on Hermosa Avenue between Orange Avenue and Main Street.
The project encompasses a distance of approximately one half mile.
Bids were received from three (3) electrical contractors to install the street
lights.
RECOMMENDATION: That Council accept the bids and award the contract to
Bonita Electric in the amount of $47,438 and authorizing reprogramming of
$6,500 from the Community Development Block Grant funds.
BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable.
DISCUSSION:
Bids were received from three qualified contractors as follows:
1. Bonita Electric - Chula Vista
2. MCR Electrical Contractors, Inc. - Imperial Beach
3. D & H Perry Electric Co. - Spring Valley

The low bid by Bonita Electric was below the engineer's estimate of $57,850 by
$10,412 or 18 percent. We have reviewed the low bid and believe it to be
satisfactory and recommend awarding the contract to Bonita Electric.

Approximately $12,660 is remalnlng from the Junior High Drainage System
Project. This was funded by Community Development Block Grant and the job is
completed. Staff is recommending to transfer $6,500 from the Junior High
Drainage System Project to the street light project on Hermosa Avenue between
Orange Avenue and Main Street.
~FISCAL IMPACT: An addi ti onal $6,500 is requi red from the Communi ty
Development Block Grant Fund account (633-6330-BG146) to the Street Li ght -
Hermosa Avenue between Orange Avenue and Main Street account
(633-6330-TFl33). Annual maintenance and energy costs are estimated to be
$2,000. The Communi ty Development Department concurs with thi s $6,500 fund
transfer request.
