The City is planning to host a Pops concert at Marina View Park on August 28,
1988. The San Diego Symphony will perform on an outdoor stage located just
south of the convergence of IIJII Street and Tidelands Avenue on the large grass
area of the park. There are two fundi ng sources for thi s event. The San
Diego Unified Port District has budgeted $17,500 to defray the actual contract
cost of the symphony and an additional $10,050 was allocated in the City 's
non-departmental budget to offset the costs of supplies and services,
including the fireworks finale. A breakdown of these additional costs is
attached, along wi th a map of the concert site. The concert is schedul ed to
begin at 7:00 p.m. with the symphony performing American popular music from
the 20's, 30's, and 40's. San Diego Fireworks will provide a fireworks
display to accompany the symphony's musical finale.
Public parking will be available in the area, and free shuttle bus service
will be offered between the concert site and the IIHII Street trolley stations.
Traffic and crowd control will be handled by regular duty police officers and
police reserve personnel. Promotions and advertising will be coordinated
through the City's Public Information office.
The symphony will provide the stage, orchestra shell, and all sound and
lighting equipment necessary.
The performance of the Pops orchestra wi 11 greatly enri ch the cul tural and
artistic opportunities for Chula Vista residents, and the event will help to
enhance the City's image as a community that nurtures cultural programs.
.
FISCAL IMPACT: The amount of $10,000 has been allocated in the City's
non-departmental budget to offset the costs of suppl i es, servi ces, and the
