It was the unanimous decision of the Council to direct the City Clerk to bring back a policy incorporating the concurrence of a majority of the B/C/Cs as to the percentage of absences which shall be permitted before the seat is declared vacant. RECOMMENDATION: Approve Absenteeism Policy for di recti ng the Ci ty C1 erk Handbook. the resolution setting forth the the Boards, Commissions and Committees to incorporate the Pol icy in the S/C/C DISCUSSION: In December 1987, a memo was sent to all the B/C/Cs explaining that the Council proposed a policy whereby any member o f a B I C I C m i s sin g 2 5 % 0 r m 0 rem e e tin 9 s \>J i tho uta val ide xc use ~u1d have his/her office vacated. ~e majority of the B/C/Cs responding concurred with the new policy requirements recommending certain types of excuses they felt would be IIva1idll and acceptable The present Charter provision states that if a member misses three (3) consecutive meetings without an excused absence, his/her seat will be declared vacated. The new Pol icy will now require attendance at 75% of the meetings and this will apply to special meetings and workshops as well. The only added requirement as directed by the Council was that any member who is nearing the percentage of missing 25% of the meetings be fi rst given written notification so that s/he can respond to the B/C/C.
