The Sweetwater Uni on Hi gh School Di stri ct expects duri ng the next coupl e of
years to be constructing a storm drain system in "G" Street from Fifth Avenue
to near their southerly property line and then extending easterly along their
southerly property line tying into the existing storm drain system at Scripps
Memorial Hospital.
RECOMMENDATION: That Council accept the drainage easements granted by
Scripps Memorial Hospital and the Sweetwater Union High School District of San
Diego County, and direct the City Clerk to have the drainage easement granted
by Scripps Memorial Hospital recorded at the County Recorder's office.
(S\'ieetwater Union High School District has already recorded their drainage
easement. )

DISCUSSION:
Not applicable.
On October 27, 1987, the City Council accepted the contract work for
construction of "GII Street and Fifth Avenue storm drain system adjacent to
Chula Vista Junior High in the City of Chula Vista. This project was budgeted
in the FY 1984-85 Capi ta 1 Improvement Program and was intended to be a j oi nt
project between the City and the Sweetwater Union High School District.
Unfortunately, because of funding difficulties, the School District was unable
to construct their share of the project, and the City then just constructed
that portion between IIGII Street and the existing box culvert just west of
Smith Avenue. The School District anticipates awarding a contract for
construction of the remaining portion of the project which extends southerly
along Fi fth Avenue from "G" Street to near the south property 1 i ne of the
School District and then easterly along the southerly portion of Chula Vista
Junior High School to the existing storm drain system at Scripps Memorial
Hospital wi thi n the next coupl e of years. Both the School Di stri ct and
Scripps Memorial Hospital have executed drainage easements to facilitate the
future construction.
Attached is the sketch showing the portion of the job that the School District
will be constructing in the future.
Upon completion of the project, the City will assume the responsibility of
maintenance of the storm drain system.

FISCAL IMPACT: None.
