ITEM TITLE: Resolution/IJ. Accepting bids and awarding contract for Street
Overlay Program 1980-81, Various Streets in the City of Chula
Vista, califor~~

At 2:00 p.m. on July 23, 1980, in Conference Room 3 in the Public Services Building,
the City Engineer received sealed bids for "Street Overlay Program 1980-81, Various
Streets Within the City of Chula Vista, California". The scope of the project
involves placement of 1 to l~ inches of overlay on the existing street surface. This
is a Block Grant funded project. It is my
RECOMMENDATION: That Council:
1. Authorize expenditure of $57,000 from budgeted project Pavement Overlay
1980-81, account no. 634,6340-BG84.
2. Accept bids and award contract to Daley Corporation, San Diego in the
amount of $51,891.50.
BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable.
DISCUSSION:
Bids were received from two contractors as follows:
1. Daley Corporation, San Diego
2. V.R. Dennis Construction Co., San Diego

The low bid submitted bv Dalev Corporation is below the Engineer's estimate of
$69,705 by $17,813.50 or 25.6%.
We have reviewed the low bid and find it to be acceptable.
The Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development has reviewed the low
bidder's eligibility to participate in a Federally financed block grant project.
Attached is a plat showing the streets which were included in the bid for this
overlay project. The streets include:
