fire dispatching services for
At the Council meeting of May 6, 1980 the Council directed staff to develop a fire
dispatching agreement with National City. Basically we will be providing full fire
dispatching services for National City just as we are now performing for Montgomery
and Bonita Fire Districts.
RECOMMENDATION: That Council:
Adopt resolution a pprov ing fire dispatching agreement with National City.
BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
Not applicable.
DISCUSSION
For sometime it has been our goal to consolidate fire services in the South Bay in
order to provide the best possible fire services in the most cost effective manner.
In an effort to achieve this goal we have entered into automatic aid and dispatching
agreements with both the Montgomery and Bonita/Sunnyside Fire Districts. These
programs have proven to be very satisfactory to all agencies.
This agreement with National City to provide fire dispatching services is the next
logical step in the overall plan. In order to implement this plan we will be adding
one Communications Operator to the budget of the Uniform Division of the Police Depart-
ment. The cost of this additional operator, as well as all pertinent telephone costs,
will be borne by National City. The financial agreement is being made with the under-
standing that it will be reviewed annually and that we will be striving, in the future,
to derive a formula that would be utilized to determine these dispatching costs for
the various fire agencies.
We plan to assume the dispatching of National City fire calls on or about October 1,
1980. It is recommended that National City be billed quarterly utilizing a monthly
rate of $1,641.00.
FISCAL IMPACT
The actual financial impact will be borne by National City. We will have to add the
following amounts to Uniform Division accounts:
1040-5101 -
1040-5102 -
1040-5141 -
1040-5142 -
