MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING BOARD OF APPEALS AND ADVISORS CITY OF CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA April 12, 1993 Conference Room No.1 5:15 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Gingerich, Board Members McArthur, Triplette, Harter, and Nash MEMBERS ABSENT: Vice-Chairman Leonard MEMBERS EXCUSED: Board Member Coleman CITY STAFF PRESENT: Assistant Director of Building and Housing Remp, Acting Fire Chief Hardiman, Fire Marshal Gove, Fire Captain Horsfall and Administrative Office Specialist Karen Wooten CALL MEETING TO ORDER' Chairman Gingerich called the meeting to order at 5:19 p.m. ROLL CALL- Members present constituted a quorum. Chairman Gingerich introduced Mayor Nader who was in attendance as an observer. Mr. Merritt W. Hodson, Community Relations Field Represtative for HomeFed Bank was also present as an observer. 1. DECLARATION OF EXCUSEDfUNEXCUSED ABSENTEEISM: MSUC TriplettelNash (5-0) to excuse Board Member Coleman. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES' MSUC NashfTriplette (5-0) to approve the minutes of March 8, 1993. . . . Board of Appeals and Advisors -2- April 16, 1993 3. NEW BUSINESS' A. Appeal of 1991 Edition. Uniform Fire Code Article 81, Table 81.107A Requirements for Curtain Boards Applicant Bill Tomes of Tomes, Van Rickley & Associates gave a presentation of his research on the problems posedby the instal1ation of curtains boards in fire protection. After substantial discussion and presentations by Fire Marshal Gove and Assistant Director of Building and Housing Rernp, the Board expressed their opinion that the request had not been supported by sufficient evidence. Motion to deny made by Harter, seconded by Triplette. Board Members voted 4-1 in favor of the Motion, (Board Member McArthur opposed). 4. DIRECTOR'S COMMENTSIREPOR T: A. Revised title for the Board Assistant Director of Building and Housing Rernp requested this item be reviewed at next month's meeting when Director of Building and Housing Larsen would be present. B. Overview of the 31 st California Buildini Officials Business Meetini Assistant Director of Building and Housing Remp stated that Chula Vista had substantial representation at the meeting. Both heand Director of Building and Housing Larsen were featured speakers at this State-wide convention. Themost important aspect of the meeting was the message sent to the State to give more control to local government, and not add more legislation to enforce without providing funding. 5.
